Take a closer look at the unique jewelry of
Carlos Roberto Costa Ribeiro. Each clasp, hook, post, and final touch is
carefully handcrafted using only pure silver and the artist’s own
techniques. Gemstones from his travels through Central and South America
accent his work.
From his homeland of Brazil comes his latest inspiration, “Biojewelry”
featuring nuts from various types of palm trees native to the Amazon
Rainforest. These nuts are sustainably harvested by indigenous people who
sell them to artisans in their raw form. The tough outer husks of the
small, coconut-like seeds must be removed and the seeds are polished. For
variety, the seeds can be dyed with fabric dyes to create vibrant,
durable, waterproof, all-natural beads.
These seeds pair beautifully with Roberto’s silverwork, complementing his
rustic yet refined style. Roberto also makes lovely “bio - rings” from
cross section slices of the seeds, with rich and deep wood tones.
